Righty tighty, lefty lucy applies here, but you must remember that you are facing the bolt from the "under" side opposite the head, so be carefull that you are turning the screw the right way!! I stripped out my oil plug on my 2000 KX 250 by not remembering this important detail, by overtightening and stripping the case threads. The result was quite an expensive reminder not to do this, as I had to take it to the shop to have the old plug removed and a helicoil put in, and a new plug. Of course if you get on your back and look up at the plug, you are less likely to make this error. You can also make sure the ratchet is set to loosen (left) before putting it on the plug I suppose. 20/20 I guess at this point, but I hope this helps someone save a few bucks in repair costs.

    Another key step!!
Put the drain plug back in BEFORE you add the new oil!! Unlike some brother-in-law I know who dumped 5 qts of oil on the ground!!

That's nothing, I knew someone who was driving down the highway in his brand new Chevy truck just after taking it to the dealership and they forgot to tighten the oil plug at ALL, so it all just dropped out of the engine on the freeway.

And if that wasn't bad enough, I had a coworker drive away from Sears after getting tires put on his car, and they FORGOT to put on the lug nuts all the way, so the wheel just fell off.
