This reminds me, back when I bought my first brand new car in '94, I bought a little Saturn SL. Back then, Saturn gave you a really nice card with a pop-out plastic key on it to keep in your wallet. It was a good one, too, not one of those cheesy ones you got after-market. It was pretty robust and had a little metal re-enforcement strip to strengthen it. As a result, it really wouldn't wear out, even if you used it regularly.

Later, they went to the cheaper type to cut production costs. I wonder if they even provide one anymore or if something like that is extra, now. It was a really nice feature - one of those many early little things people really liked about those cars.

Of course, they also used to pull your car into the showroom so you could actually "drive your car off the showroom floor". I don't know if they even do that, either, anymore. Ah, memories......

It's funny, Saturn folks used to wave at each other, too...

Now that you brought it up, when I got my 98' S-10, it came with a spare key you kept in your wallet. It was metal without that plastic handle, but inside a heavy vinyl credit card type of bag that fit into your wallet. I think I may still have that somewhere...

Now I have extra spare keys and I am in the hunt down for blanks that were from the 04' year that would be just like the original that came with my bike... I'm hoping to find at least one!

Thanks! I got a couple spare keys made for my Nomad. The locksmith did not have the specific blank that looks exactly like my original key, but did have a blank that worked. I tried them both on the bike, so I know they work. Any body else find a blank that looks exactly like the Kawi key?

LOL! My truck locks itself when the alarm arms, so I have to be careful.

That hits pretty close for me.......I just took my baby to the shop and my last words to the shop manager was "Don't lose the key, it's the only one I have"! When I getr' out, I'm headed directly to get at least two spares made. Also, I always keep my key on a chain hooked to my belt, except when it's in the ignition. I do the same with my cell phone. I was in the middle of the Smoky Mountains on US441 and felt something slapping my leg, looked down, and it was the flap on my cell phone carrier! I've since put a draw string on it and chained the carrier to my belt on the other side. I hate losing stuff, but it happens!

wow. dusty thread, but i can add a reason to make copies; the keys for my '07 are very soft and bend easily. one is already cracking and i surely won't be cracking-up if it breaks off in the gas cap lock.

Reminds me of last summer... My son and I were on our way back from an excellent day's ride up the Forest Service roads to Windy Ridge, overlooking Mt. St. Helens. I was following him when I noticed something go bouncing off the pavement and into the weeds along the shoulder of the road. Thought he had just hit some swarf on the road. Nope. It was his cell phone that had fallen out of his unzipped jacket pocket!

I told him not to bother going back to look for it, as last I saw, it was in at least four or five main pieces, heading for the weeds!

+1 on always having a spare key for the bike. Mine is in my wallet. Last thing I do before pulling on my gloves to ride is check both zippers on my jacket pockets where the wallet and cell phone reside...

Don

Do you have to go to a dealer or locksmith, or can Walmart make copies? I have never thought to look or ask them about this.

I think it depends on how extensive their key blank inventory is. I tried to get copies at the local ACE, but they didn't have blanks. I went to a locksmith and they had them.
