Unhappy T-CLOCKS and Why Running Out of Gas is a Bad Thing

On my way to work this morning, I walked over to my bike. I immediately saw the rear tire's air pressure was obviously insufficient. I rode it down the street to my station to put some air in the tire. After placing air in the tire I could hear it hissing when I listened carefully. I'm aware this is a bad thing, but I had to get to work and I let my mother borrow my car.

I arrive at work safely and inspect my tire to find a screw in it. When did the screw get there? The tire was fine all day yesterday, so it must have happened right before I put the bike away last night.

It just so happens, I was traveling down the Beltway when I ran out of fuel on my way home and had to pull over to the shoulder to switch to the reserve tank. As I'm pulling over to the shoulder, I'm thining to myself "Wow, it's a lot of debree..."

So, what have I learned?
- The shoulder is not a fun place to be. Why? Debree. Also because tractor trailers whizzing by you about 6 feet away at 70+mph while you try to locate your fuel switch is not fun.... At all.
- Monitor your milage, and don't forget to reset the odometer when you refuel. This prevents you from having to pull over to the shoulder to switch to your reserve tank, subsequently getting a nail in your tire.

That kinda sucks, practice flipping your fuel switch to reserve while riding. It'll come in handy one day.

I don't have one. Sorry for the problem. Were you able to get it home from work or did you have to fill it again first?

I agree 100%, on more then one time if I didn't switch to reserve right away, i would have been mowed over by a bunch of cagers

Wow, sorry to read about your tire because of the low gas. That's just one of those situations that you have to laugh at becasue it just sucks.

Yeah, learning to move the switch while riding is important. But to avoid this I just don't ride more than 120 miles per tank even though I can easily get over 150 without having to go to reserve.

That's why I'm so glad that my ZX-12 has a gas gauge

Yeah, but you shouldn't rely on it... I've heard of plenty of people who say their gauge is off.

Sounds like you had a pretty spoiled ride.
