Default Look Over The Title!!!

I've been stoked around here latly because I just bought myself a 2000 Ninja 250 right. Well I got it from a guy that never switched the title over from the guy he bought it from. Well when he bought it, the title said it had 7600 something miles ok. But they wrote over the six with a two and I never realized this when I bought it. You can clearly see the six under the two when you look closly, but the funny thing is my odo says 7,543 right now....

So I go to register it today and get the title switched over and their like, we can't do it. I kid you not, I started tearing up. There like, well you'll need to get him to sign this with a noted republic watching and have them sign it. And a bunch of bullcrap. So I call the a$$hole I bought it from and said, "I'm having the same problem you had when you tried to register it knowing this is why he sold it and not "his girlfriend found out and didn't want him riding." (wow, a quote in a quote, I'm kool) So he is silent right now and I'm still ****ed/upset. He's like well I might still have his e-mail, he lives in NY but his parents live in Florida, where the title is.

So now I'm like, I'll have to freaken send him the form, have him go to a noted republic and sign it and send it back right. So the guy I got it from calls me back like 3-4 hours later saying, I have his moms number and contacted her telling her you would be calling. So I called her up, no answer. Left a message and am like, crap, what am I going to do.

Well like 2 hours later she calls me back. I fully explain the situation to her and she was like the nicest ladies ever lol. I was like, well Jesse (guy I got it from) said he lives in NY. His mom says, well he just came back to Florida today to get his wisdom teeth pulled and spend time with me and his father. (they are divorced so he wasnt there to talk to.) She tells me when he is ok to talk, like tomorrow (saturday) she will call him up and tell him whats going on. She said he should be back with her monday, and hopefully we can take care of this then. So what I want to do is just go pick him up, take him to the DMV by my house, or his house IF I can legally do that, get all the squared away so I don't have to have the noted republic thingy and so we don't end up fking up the paper work and having to re-do it. But if he's like no I'm not going with you, I'll be like ok well lets just do the noted thing and I will call the DMV to make sure the paperwork gets filled out correctly. But I'd still rather pay the money in gas to take him to the DMV with me, ya know.

So I went from this morning thinking I'm the most unluckiest person in the world to thinking I'm the luckiest person in the world.

Lesson well learned, if someone fks up on a title when filling it out, take them with you or don't buy it, PERIOD!!!

Now I await your jokes, because after this is posted, I know I'm going to be laughing about it.

Ooooh boy. Don't know about Florida but if you screw up the paperwork here in NC you might as well be dealing with the IRS. Prepare for a long, long uphill battle. And a tip: Never ever lose your temper. You will find out what screwed means....

Good luck!!!

I guess I got lucky for being in Florida. All I have to do is get him to sign a odometer disclosure and and Him and I have to sign a Separate Odometer Disclosure Statement and Acknowledgment.

Can't you just put another 60 miles on it and take it back in?

Well here in Missouri we have to go through the Dept. of Revenue. All the same Title and tags mess. Plus they want to be sure that you pay a yearly personal property tax. I just hate the whole thing. The standing in line, the paying for your stuff every year. It would be easier to buy a machine gun then to title and tag a used bike or car.

Yeah, it was bothering me too.

If the guy who sold it to you did not have the legal right to sell it, you should be able to get your money back and return the bike. You bought a motorcycle and all you got is a paperweight. Get your money back and tell the fool that you bought it from to call you when he has it registered and titled property in his name.

Now if the bike didn't run it would be your problem bacause sales of bikes are "as-is" but you can't even ride it to find out.

PS - if they monkey-fked around with the title to change the odometer, that's called fraud.

Yeah, in Missouri, if you've got a messed up title, you can forget riding the bike that summer.

The "noted republic" thing was funny but I DO know about screwed up titles. Luckily I live in a state where the DMV is just an office in the local county building and I have always known the persons working behind the counter very well. That has saved me lots of time and money over the years.
When I brought my TX titled V2K back to Idaho, the VIN had to be inspected before transfer could be done. Well, the gal in charge was cold and didn't want to go outside into the snowstorm so I told her I had inspected the numbers before I left TX and she took my word for it. Paid the 8 bucks for the title transfer and the 5 bucks to move the plates from my 800 to the V2K and left very happy. I just got a used Jeep from a "family member" a while back and saved a good pile of cash because a gift isn't taxed in this state.
It pays to take the county employees a pan of brownies now and then too. And Popsicles every week or so during the hot summer.
