You'll still be able to walk and ride. Bet Dale wishes he could have learned at a cheaper price as well. Problem being he didn't do this to himself, so he had nothing to learn...

Get through your surgeries, do your physio and get on with your life, you have lots to be thankful for. I've been through some tough times as well...
3rd degree burns to both arms, burned the skin right off down to the fat, grafts, months of physio (18 ), couldn't bend my arms for a few months and my sister in law had to feed me and get me drinks etc.

but now I look like this...

I met a woman who came off a horse during a fox hunt. It balked at a jump while gallopping full out up hill. The rider's leg was shattered. Doctors told her she'd be lucky to ever walk again. When I knew her, she was boarding a horse at the barn where I worked, and she was back to fox hunting, not jumping. She stuck to the trotting fields, but she was defying doctors' odds, walking and even riding. I write this to let you know that even though doctors say you'll have to wear a knee brace the rest of your life, you can return to activities you love. I wouldn't doubt if you've already started thinking of how you can adapt and return to riding. Your strengths are different now.

Thinking about gear, I wonder if riding jackets ought to attach to pants so that they don't ride up and expose the back to being torn up. I thought, up until reading this thread, that it was pretty neat that denim pants can be gotten with kevlar panels. Diamond Gussett Jeans, just up the road from us, offers some. They're still pretty neat, but if I ever end up with a pair, I vow to continue wearing my leather overpants.

LOL crazy dave, a good friend of mine said the same thing. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to this post but over the last couple of weeks I have mananged to start walking without the aid of cruches. My knee gives out on me. K&N has came by to get the 08 ZX10R to use as a test bike. Out of doing so They will give me all the parts that they are going to produce for the market on the ZX10R.

The second day that my brother and I were lying in the hospital after being burnt with 2nd and 3rd degree burns one of our friends walked into our room with a freshly whittled willow stick and a bag of marshmallows and said "I was hoping you guys hadn't cooled off yet!" The nurses all had a good sense of humor as well and nicknamed us the "crispy critters". Laughters good, it releases endorphins!

Your still here for a reason Gene, make sure you make every moment count and don't let ANYONE tell you what you can't do!!
I should of died many years ago many times over, but I am still here still trying to do my best at what I think the big guy upstairs wants me to do.
I have been blessed to have lived and learned I believe you are also, yes it hurts for a long time, yes it sucks, yes it get's depressing, but you have people that care about you and value having you in thier life.
If you ever need someone to talk to about anything give me a yell!
Make it count my friend!

The military I recall from the seventies would have a crashed/DUI guy out the door, with a general discharge in hand.
You would have ALOT of people gone , even "back then" . I was in the Military for some time and don't ever recall (nor heard of prior to me joining) of anyone being kicked out of the military for DUI . I will add that I did see people getting Other than honorable discharges for multiple offenses or offenses involving serious injury to others . That being said , glad to hear you are ok Marine . Sharing your story with everyone sheds light on a subject that people should always think about prior to hitting the starter button on any vehicle .

New cost! Highway Patrol just sent me a bill for $880.00 for their time investigating the accident. Apparently According to the bill they make 88 dollars an hour or $180,000 ar year estimating a 40hr work week. This bill seems a little fishey to me. Glad I paid for a Lawer, He is handling it.
