Default What I learned on NOV24, 2007

I'll just start with a irrisponsable act of STUPIDITY. Most of you will probably feel some pain. Must warn you a head of time that this hurts and is causing even more surgery soon.

Short version is I was parked on a dirt lot, Had 1 shot and two beers. Left in a hurry to make up time and hit a rock in a turn. High sided and got hurt bad. Ok sum up.

1. dirty cold tires
2. alcohol = slow reaction
3. speed
4. rock
5. charged with DUI
6. loss of bike ( totaled )
7. Pain
8. More Pain
9. Lawer $4000
10. Court $815
11. DUI Class $585
12 new license $125
13. Surgery
14. Lessons learned is painful

Ok these are some of my injuries. There was zero skin left on the front of my legs but those pictures were corrupted. Here is what I have left of my injuries that included but as I am finding out are not limited to.

Road rash, Just a couple of patches of skin left on my legs. Two broken ankles, fractured hip, both fractured wrist, and structuraly intact but no meat/ skin/ tissue left on my left knee to the bone. These pictures of the knee was taken after two weeks of some kind of vacume thingy to grow and clean more tissue.

Tough lesson, that's for sure. Hopefully someone will gain some wisdom from your post, Gene. Thanks for posting.

I sure wish you didn't have to learn the hard way. You wouldn't think that a shot and 2 beers would slow you down that much, huh? But it does. How long had you taken to drink them?

Looks to me like you were still in first gear. 9500 RPM at 102 MPH.

Yeah, me too. (You can see how the jacket rode up his back as he was sliding.)

Glad you survived and learned. The fact that you are man enough to post this so others may learn from your mistakes says a lot.

that helmet really saved your noggin! The good part is that you're ok to ride another day. Some aren't that lucky. Glad you were Gene!

Thanx to all, The helmate did save my life. Even though I wasn't knocked out I lost sight in my rifgt eye for about 3 min. I honestly thought that something was horribly wrong with it.

Reconstructive knee surgery on my left knee and an ACL replacement on my right.

For all those that think it is ok to ride in shorts, Take a good look, I was wearing ICON denim/kevlar riding pants. Not upset with the company though. At 100+mph anything outside of leather wouldn't hold up. Cudos to JOE ROCKET textile jackets, and a special thanks goes out to SCORPION helmets.

At least you lived to share the lesson and tell about it. Many do not get that extra chance! Glad you are relatively OK!

Glad you're alive. Seen too much of that when I worked at a hospital in surgery. One learns real quick. I am very glad that you wore your safety gear. Too many people don't.
