I was thinking about checking into the book Anita (Wgirl) recommended, but I also would love to have a recommendation for a riding video. I am more of a visual learner and think watching a video would be more helpful. Do you know of a good one?

Tony and I are on a waiting list for an MSF intermediate/experienced rider course this spring or summer. The course is not offered very often. We are also wanting to do at least the one-day all-levels Superbike School, which happens at Infineon, a two+ hour ride away, or at Laguna Seca, five hours from home. Similar, probably, to the course you took.

other than the "ride like a pro" series of videos i am unaware of anything out there.
they wouldn't even let me post up the video footage from the "seminar" i went to last year.
i have still yet to take the class and according to the schedule i will most likely not get the chance till around august.
the may one falls on my work weekend and so on and so forth.
if you look at the schedule thaey may have one near you soon.

Michael, it looks like a good class, but the California location is a LONG way away from where we live. The road trip would add several hundred miles to my odometer! The Keith Code schools are much closer; they are more expensive, but we can get to them.

The delayed apex is a great line to follow, as Rich suggested. I would also try literally pushing the handlebar down, on the side of the turn, instead of thinking of leaning all the time. Get your arms used to the idea that they are controlling the turn, not your body.

You can push the bike down into a lean, and keep your body straight up. You can also lean your body over into the lean more than the bike. This is an even better way to not scrape up your floor boards to much.

Watch the sport bike guys, they drag their knee pucks as a way of keeping the bike up out of the lean, making it possible to go faster around twisties turns.

I was following (in my car) a guy on a Yamaha YZF last year. I was less experienced at riding so I wasn't really watching his line, but I was certainly admiring the way he was taking the corners. Of course, none of it sank in, but it was incredible to watch someone cornering well.

David, I had forgotten about pushing the handlebars to help the turn. Thanks for that!

The delayed apex (sometimes called a “late” apex) provides a better view ahead, conserves traction during the last half of the turn, keeps you away from those “sideswipe zones,” and points the bike more around the curve. A delayed apex line is a good idea for riding public roads where anything can happen.

Heck, I even do this in my F-150....it makes that 4500lb beast glide through corners like a Ninja - that is, if all Ninjas were the size of Chris Farley....

...at least the truck is black. Black is very important to stealthy movements...

I'm sorry I didnt have time to read all the posts. I'm about to go to work. But let me add I had a very hard time at first learning the curves Liz. But I learned some of the same things you did and now can really enjoy them. I can truly understand being one with the bike now after a few months and am riding with anyone (and not lagging behind).

As you continue to gain experience and lose nervousness, all you are going to want to do is ride! My whole world revolves around riding my bike now. I love every minute of it.

Boy, Tim, I hear you on the "all I want to do is ride!"

There are days when I will do just about anything to get on my bike for even a few minutes. It's pretty powerful. I don't have the least bit of addictive personality…except for wanting to ride.
