I went to the elementary school today to eat lunch with my boys. In my endeavor to look cool (you know, sveltly removing the helmet for all the kids to see and swinging my invisible hair), I forgot to turn off the ignition. When I returned about an hour later, my trusty steed wouldn't start. After trying to explain to the parents who happened to be there about the qualities of a metric bike, I couldn't start it.
When I figured out that the battery was dead, I quickly donned my full-face to hide my red face. Luckily, my son was inside and so he didn't get to be embarrassed, as I straddle-pushed my bike to jump start it. It took three times and I was running out of real estate (thankfully, it was on a slight downhill), but it finally kicked in. Lesson learned - you can be cool, but you can't be dumb and cool. |

Don't feel bad. Those kind of things happen to everyone. When my husband first got his FJR (a really HOT bike), he pulled into a gas station to fuel up and forgot to put his kickstand down. Beautiful new bike falls over in front of a bunch of onlookers.
The good thing about these experiences is that we learn from them. Bet you won't do that again, will you?

I've done that before Dawg, but not in front of a crowd. I happened to come home an pull in the garage an hit the kill switch, forgot to turn off the key. Come back out an hour later an you know the rest. Luckily I had a battery charger close by.

dawg...your as honest as rain telling on yourself. Julie makes a good point as we all can offer up stories about our own mis-fortunes with our motorcycles.
Thanks for sharing! |

Yeah dawg, the worst things always happen when the "cool" kicks in. I know guys who've run into curbs and rear ended cars trying to be cool for the babes on the street. And yeah, throwing the invisible hair around- now that's the apex of cool. I can relate......

You gotta take the glass is half full attitude here, You at least don't have to go to school each day there. On the other hand, your boys have to face the ravages of the kidding they will get cause their dad is a balding old fool who thinks he's cool...

Poor Dawgblood ! How about- I had just picked up a rented M50 Harley mo-ped (cause a drunk had hit, and totaled both of my parked cars the night before) and was feelin' all cool as I reached busy, bumper to bumper downtown Hannibal, MO at rush hour. I happened to notice a bunch of very attractive girls on my left, and one in particular that was looking back at me. Not to be impolite, and look away, I held that stare as I drove along. You know, she didn't even so much as raise an eyebrow, nor not one of the group that was all staring back by then, as the traffic ahead of me stopped!! I ended up with my chin on the yellow cab's back window, arms spread wide across the trunk, and the bike wedged under his bumper (didn't even fall down). Then, it seemed, SHE was the cool one, as they all walked by giggling, and I just laid there and stared back. I crawled off ,pulled the bike back, (the cabbie was tickled to drive on) and I rode off with my wounded ego, TOTALLY aware of my surroundings. (Didn't even wave at those girls as I rode by with my eyes straight ahead !)
Do you feel better now Dawgblood ? Cause I AIM to please. ![]() |

HA HA Girls? What girls? All I can see now is the "green green grass of home" LOL PLUS, I'm old enough now to not only be able to laugh at myself, but NOT be ashamed to admit that "I ain't so COOL"!! But hey, thanks for your response. Injuries? It literally "KILLED" my pride, and, my chin was sore for awhile. PS, that was about 35 years ago, so what my wife don't know won't hurt her. HA HA

Slicks' boss got hurt in an accident, so John and the other guy had to pick up all the slack at work, plus, I understand that his daughter had two girls stayin' over for a couple of days while his girlfriend was gone. He may be tryin' to recover, huh? But I'll tell him you asked.
