Way to go Mr. Lycos! I'm trying to do some of my own stuff too, so I know how gratifying it is to actually do it right - especially when my my only past mechanical experience was kicking the crud out of the side of my car when I would get a flat.

If you had to get a manual to do oil changes don't even think about touching the valves if they require shim adjustments. And I'm not familiar with debadging. What exactly is that?

It's when you remvoe the factory decals / emblems that they stick on the side covers and gas tank. Some people do not like them so the remove them by using a piece of fishing line to go behind the double sticky tape and merely cut through as you pull the string from one end to the other of the emblem / decal. Or you can use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm them up to remove them. Afterward use some WD-40 to remove the remaining glue residue.
