Talking and I did it all myself!

Yes, the snow may have been falling, but that doesn't mean spring can't hurry itself up and get here. With my trusty Clymer manual and a trip to Autozone I managed to get quite a bit of work done to my bike today (saving large sums of cash by avoiding the dealer):

*Oil & filter change
*Sticker removal (the tank & side cover badges are gonna have to wait)
*Headlight bulb replaced with superbright snowmobile bulb
*chain adjusted
*battery charged

And best of all, I din't lose a single fastener or break anything! And now that my confidence level is up, I can get to some more jobs before all the snow melts: valve adjust, debadging, cable lubing, carb adjusting....

Now why would you begrudge the poor dealer this month's Mercedes payment?

You didn't lose any fasteners, bolts, ot have any extra parts left over? That's when you have to question when something's wrong! I worry when that happens! Just foolin'. It's good to have a continual hands-on maintenance schedule so you will stay familiar with the working parts of the bike. READY FOR SPRING!!!

Good for you. It is real satisfying to be able to work on your own bike. I love to work on my bike almost as much as I enjoy riding . The ony probem is I bought a Kawasaki.

Are you kidding? You're supposed to pull the heads and check the valves every 6k, chain adjusting, carb tuning..... Granted its no Harley, but theres always more maintenence to do.

And my dealer has a Hummer H2 (And a Zx-10r & a Boulevard C90), not a Mercedes!

No Chain, No need to adjust valves, and it is fuel injected. Got to love the Mean Streaks.

I hated dealing with the chain driven bikes. This is my first bike with out a chain. I love the shaft drive. Nice and clean and so smooth.

My first, too. I sometimes still look for a little bungie to wrap around my pantleg.....

Congrats, Mr. L - Ain't it great to save all that money and unravel the mysteries of motorcycle maintenance? I saved enough on 2 oil changes alone to justify the jack I bought at Pep Boys!

Of course....I like to think of this as making the bike 'lighter' to increase performance.

No extra parts, but I did partially strip the oil-drain bolt. It seems "righty tighty/ lefty loosey" is hard to comprehend when your trying to loosen a bolt thats upside-down

And I did find a plastic washer from my Mustang seat under the battery that I dropped there last year. No more stinky "cardboard-sc*rap" washer this year!

You only want extra parts when working on HDs. One less thing to fall off and lose on the road.

I am also a long distance runner. You would not believe how many bolts and washers and nuts and pieces of cages litter the side of the road. I guess it is better to have parts left over than for them to fall later any ways.
