Stopped at a gas station to refuel, but before I turned off the engine I put the trip odometer back to zero and played around with the other functions. Turned off my key and got off the bike, forgetting to put down the kickstand. Other than feeling like a fool, and having to wait for someone to help me lift it, I'm glad I had highway bars on. I did have to replace a terribly bent floorboard, and there was no other damage - except to my ego for being such an idiot. So now, without fail, bike goes into neutral, kickstand goes down, then the other stuff!!!!!!!! LESSON LEARNED!

I had a cager cut me off on my v2k yesterday, i braked hard and ended up dropping it on the left side, i was amazed how easy it was, to pick up a 800+lb bike, it was almost routine, the bike with the floorboards and highway bar looked like it was on the kickstand.

What do I do?
I put it on the kickstand first thing. Why? Because when I shut the bike off, I ALWAYS engage the fork lock. That means having the bars turned all the way. That means I've already got it on the kickstand. The thing I always forget is turning off the signal after pulling in. So, I sit there at the pump while I get shut down...blink, blink blink. Then I start her back up and....blink, blink, blink. Maybe I should move to Orlando and be done with it... |

That sucks I put my bike down once slipping on some small pebbles in my car port when I first got the bike. No real damage was done tho which is good.
Worst part is they probably have you on video at the gas station and it's only a matter of time before it finds it's way to youtube. :p |

I have come close several times to doing the same thing. I always dismount from the left so I am there to catch it when it starts going over. Lately I dont even dismount to pump the gas, just straddle the bike.

Yeah, most of us have done somthing similar. The other one...well how about forgetting to put the kickstand UP. Could be dangerous and of course some motorcycles simply will not start uless you put the kick stand up. Turn er over, chug, chug die. Hey what's going on here! grrrr. Well idiot put your kick stand up, then go. Seen that happen and what made me feel like an idiot was that I didn't figure out what was wrong with his bike for the first few tries. Oh, ummmm, it won't start with the kickstand down.

I don't have a kickstand switch. Instead, it has a replaceable, flexible rubber toe on it that will flip it up if it touches down when you ride off with it down. It saves having the hard part hit first.
Speaking of dragging hard parts, I'm reminded I have to bend the plate with the feeler nub back down flat to the bottom of my left peg. I...uh...bent it... |
