Default I feel stupid

My VN900 had about ninety miles on it this morning and I was going on a group run for charity. There were no gas stations along the route so we were advised to gas up before starting. I filled my gas tank and tried to reset my trip odometer to zero, but it wouldn't reset. About forty miles into the run I realized that I probably had to hold the button in for a little while and it would be designed this way to prevent accidental resets.
When I got home I held it in for a while and it went to zero.

Don't feel stupid....it took me my first three tanks of gas to fool around with the buttons and find out there was a trip-ometer!

(Of course, I did know that you have to hold it down a second or two - but only because my car requires this too)

If that's the stupidest thing you do on your bike, you have it made.

Even after owning my bike for almost three years now, I still keep the owners manual in the nightstand. On occasion when I can't sleep, I get it out and go over a few pages. It helps to keep on top of all the little fun features we have on our bikes and also to drop off to sleep too!

I have the old mechanical type. I actually wish I could push a button to reset it. I hate that I have to scroll through twice to get all zeros.

That's better than pounding on the neutral indicator light to try to get the trip odo up. Not that I've ever done that, but I've heard tell.

Cool

You're not alone. I bought mine used and it didn't come with the owners manual. It took me a few times to figure it out.
