Default When it rains.....

When you are riding home in a thunderstorm and stop at a traffic light, cagers will look at you like you are insane. You can almost hear them thinking "not so much fun saving gas now is it motorcycle boy"

I get that look a lot. I also got the same look from coworkers the other day when it was pouring down rain and they were running to their cars while I sat in the building lobby and put my Frogg Toggs on. When I got home I was still completely dry. The cars on the way home just looked and smiled as I rode past them.

When I'm on my bike and it starts pouring, I think the same thing.

it's been 110°+ here in phoenix for the last 7-10 days. People are looking at me like I could kill over at any time. Camelback is a life saver for sure. I'll soak my arms (wearing the mesh jacket), and let the water run down my back and chest while at a stop light. Better than $4.69 for diesel.

I have got that look a couple of times this week, and I'll be getting it again this afternoon the way it looks right now.

I love it when I get that look and when I have the chance I tell them it has NOTHING to do with saving gas.

I simply don't look at them...I specifically watch traffic around me.

If it's raining hard enough to "get the look", then I'm wearing my rain suit and don't look wet. Therefore, I seldom get the look.

Even most of my co-workers have stopped asking if I'm worried about getting wet on a day that it's looking like it's going to rain - or already is.

I just look back and smile! And if co-workers ask, I explain it's not a bad thing at all, rather a free bike wash and shower!

Rain is just a powerwash cycle. It's all good. If the rain isn't too cold I don't bother with rain gear. Skin is wash and wear ya know.

I was suited up, so it wasnt so much the rain, or that I was getting wet, it was more the stormy conditions. Lightning, wind and the like.

When I see a biker caught in the rain, I usually just shake my head and mutter "Poor guy".

All last week I got caught in the rain, and I know the look. You usually get it when you're stopped on the highway, water dripping from your visor and off of your nose. I even got caught in that wicked hail/lightning storn last tuesday. Hail hurts more than june bugs, just so you know. Everytime I caught up to the hail, I would stop, put $5 in, light a butt, then head back out. I got paid back for every jogger I ever "got" with a puddle...

Hey CT, how long does it take for co-workers to shut up? It's been years and they still ask me (all day) if I heard it was going to rain. So annoying, especially when it comes from the "other" riders.

A day in the rain on a bike is way better than a day in the cage 'cause it might...

I retired from my regular job in 2006, and am now a professional scuba instructor. We conduct dives in seriously cold water, often seeing bottom temperatures of 35-38 degrees F at 250 feet. To counter the effects of hypothermia, I wear a Scandinavian drysuit. It's one piece made of abrasion-proof vulcanized rubber with a watertight zipper across the back shoulders. While it would be completely impractical, I'm sorely tempted to ride it around in the rain, just for those people throwing looks. If I do, I'll get pictures.
This is me wearing my Viking drysuit after a dive on a shipwreck called The Goulandris.
