Lane splitting is routine here in CA. Yes, occasionally a cager hops out, and from time to time a bike does go down.
This guy was splitting faster than I EVER would... even when splitting, I leave myself an out, and if it's too tight or someone gives me a "feeling", I'll hang back.

Enough years behind the wheel or the bars and you can get a pretty good read on people.
