Default 60 MPH isnt really that bad...

did a short highway run today coming home from work. got the ZX-6 up to 60 and tucked in behind the windscreen and the wind sucked! but it was quite the rush...didnt really feel like 60 MPH. im sure my speedo was off a bit, but it felt really good to actually get up to that speed.

still not ready for the bigger highways yet...but im takin' it all in baby-steps and getting a feel for different speeds. so much more fun than driving the car

Well now that you used up first gear, you can work on second.

Joking, congrats.....I am glad you are showing the bike respect, and learning skills at a curve you can manage.

wait...im supposed to get out of 1st? but it goes to 86 MPH!

kidding! things happen fast at those speeds, and i just wanna make sure to be careful at all times so im taking things in small, digestible chunks. thing that makes me mad is that there is still a paint-strip on my rear tire!!! after nearly 50 miles that little line is still there! i think i just need to ride more

for the wind i suggest a double bubble windscreen from PUIG or another manufacturer. Huge difference imho.

This pretty much describes the first time I got my Ninja on the highway. Consider yourself lucky that you have nearly 3x the cc's. 60mph is barely a leg stretch for that bike. Good job with the baby steps instead of just jumping in feet first. Caution is your friend.

Hey man i know exactly how you feel yesterday was the first time i broke 60mph as well. Definitly started feeling the wind. It was so exhilirating. Unfortunately the stretch of Highway i live by is where 495 and 95 split and seems to be a very dangerous stretch of road and i plan to avoid it for quite a while. It's really cool to be able to come on here and share this experiance with someone else ^^

the thing wants to go faster...it wants me to stretch the gears out to 16K...problem is im not ready to do it LOL im sure the bike is frustrated with me, but itll just have to put up with it for a little while longer until i know exactly what to expect from the bike. almost had it full throttle once today...talk about acceleration

the good thing about living in MS is that there are a bunch of tiny highways that are relatively smooth and travel is at a minimum on them. so i can get my feet wet and get used to the feeling of speed in relative safety. id hate to jump on a well-traveled highway and have to worry about my speed and all the cars around me.

for all its faults MS is good for some things LOL and it is great to share the experiences...some people hit 60 and higher long ago, and some of us are getting there for the first time. i thought my old KX125 was pretty fast topped out in 6th...but its terribly slow compared to the rocket i have now. im just happy to be back on 2 wheels

It's funny, I was riding through the lot at work today and they had a speed checker set up since people have been really blating through there and pedestrians are getting concerned. As I passed by, my speedo read 20MPH and the speed checker said 15MPH on the nose. I was honestly expecting 17MPH with an indicated 20MPH. My speedo seems very ambitious...

I wonder if they'll let me borrow it to blast down 229. I'd like to know what the differential is at 60....

yea...why cant they just make them read correctly from the factory? i guess they want to try and cut down on speeding, but man people are gonna speed whether the speedo says the correct speed or not ya know? i just keep it at 5 over (like i do in my car) and oh well if people want to go faster. if theyre too close ill just let em by!

It's good to see someone being responsible and getting the feel for their bike....don't worry, before long you'll have to remind yourself to slow down. The wind at higher speeds takes a little time to get used to, but you will.

ive already reminded myself to slow down a few times LOL i keep myself in check though. i know when the wind starts flowing really well im at about 45 MPH, so that helps me stay in check.

actually, i got a weird look from a cop today...i passed by him and he was just kinda staring at me. i wonder if he liked my bike or if he thought it was weird i had all this riding gear on "theres one we wont have to take to the hospital for road rash!" LOL

Or maybe he was shocked to see a sport bike obeying the speed limit, not ripping on the throttle and not doing a 200 yard wheelie. It seems like that's a favorite hobby around here. It's sad, because it means eventually someone's going to get it into their head to start cracking down.

As far as the gear thing - we're a helmet-less state - meaning because they aren't required to, pretty much no one wears one. In fact, it's hard to buy one since stores down't stock many around here.

thats a possibility as well...ive had one speeding ticket and i saw what it did to my insurance. i dont want to go through that again! not saying im a saint...i normally do 5 over...but im the one getting passed usually doesnt make a bit of difference to me. i just want to get where im going and if it takes me 10 minutes more than someone else, thats fine. 10 minutes is nothing compared to the hike in insurance.

and i dont see how someone cant wear a helmet...i respect a persons choice not to, but i dont understand how someone could go without. i dont like dust and wind in my eyes...dries em out and with contacts its horrible if you get anything on them!

Congrats on reaching a level and never do anything your not comfortable with. I got home the other night and pulled my contacts out cause one was killing me and found a huge piece of dirt STUCK to it Rock on man, yer on the right track.

i wear contacts as well...FF helmet FTW! with the visor down i dont have to worry. hit a bug the other day actually...PING!

im thinking of going back to glasses though. i love contacts but when something gets on them it sucks. when something (dust) gets UNDER them? ouch! been wearing them for years and still hate it when that happens...and when you have cats it seems to happen more often. i have 2, my girl has FIVE (i love them all though...), one being a Norwegian Forest Cat...long hair...i have to take extra care when at her house.

plus i might be getting a new job soon and i might have to stop wearing them. there may be welding going on around me, which means theres the danger of having a contact melt itself to my eyeball! no thank you! ill take the glasses

and the speed checker said 15MPH on the nose.

Don't seeing speed checkers just make ya want to speed up and see how fast you can go before you get to it
