Default First Freeway Ride

WOW. Finally got 1) freeway ride to work under my belt. What I learned; stay calm and be one with the bike. I had some tailgaters behind me, but I could not control that. Was riding about 65-75mph on this trip, also the wind was a pain. A little stressful, but I am thinking about leaving early, try not to deal with morning or evening traffic if possible.
A little stressful but I feel a lot better.

I am not the hugest religious man, but while riding I think it might help.

Also looking for some fellow San Diegan to ride to work with from La Mesa up to Sorrento Valley area.

PS* don't like typing................

more experience=greater sense of comfort/relaxation. Keep at it!

I am seriously trying to get out more. trying to find local riders to ride with. But also not getting over my head neither.

I have noticed that. Relax is the work i kept telling myself in my head.

Consider getting a windshield. I have a 900 Classic but still didn't want a big touring shield. I bought a small Rifle; much better at FWY speeds. I've seen a few small ones for the Custom.

Yea im looking into that also, I might need a wrist saver for my throttle way cheaper then a cruise control.

i dont see how you could ride without a windshield...i barely have one but it works a bit. i tuck in behind and its ok for the moment. i did my first 45 mile ride yesterday and it wasnt too bad. just gotta trust the bike, squeeze with your knees and watch out for road debris and idiots around you.

the bugs are the worst though. im glad i have gear because if i didnt id have some nice bruises!

also...do you cover your clutch/brake levers while riding? it helps you keep a light grip on the bars which will make riding more comfortable overall. keeps you from doing the death grip and wearing out your hands/wrists/forearms.

When you get more used to riding take a buddy along and go to Palomar Mountain and look at the observatory. Also the ride to Otay lakes is pretty and go up honey springs road . I have an 82 GPZ1100 B2 I rode all over San Diego when I lived there.

Try to get some ride time in on off hours. I sure didn't care for my first or fifth ride on the slab but now I do most of my riding on it,none though in rush hour traffic I've moved from the right hand lane to the center lane and feel comfortable with traffic. Just give yourself a good interval/ safety margin and go with the flow.

Do you travel I-8 to 805 or up 5? Either way it's a real mess sometimes. And the traffic on sorrento valley road can be dangerous at sunrise and sunset.

your confidence curve appears normal.

was real nervous the first 200 miles or so. even at 5 am. now, the sb 405 diamond lane is the perfect motorcycle lane at that time. on the other hand, 3pm brings way too many invincible types pushing 90 mph in their padded cages. also brings much more turbulent air. so, it's mostly the easy going number 3 lane with head and eyes working overtime on the way home.

hang in there. it gets much more fun.
