Thumbs up Im riding a beast!!! Gotta clean up my seat now.

Well what I learned is that even tho my bike is only a parallel twin and 649cc (07 650r) it has serious juice...

Short story I changed the oil to semi synthetic for now and went out for a ride... well I could not help myself, I had to twist that throttle to see what its got and man did I get a surprise... Now with my 500R i could twist the throttle all the way and it would just pull hard...

On this 650 I twisted all the way, the RMPs climbed very nicely with even power throughout (better than the 500r) but once it passed about 6.5-7K RMP the motor changed its sound, and the front end came up on me while I was sitting on the seat, wasnt trying to pop the front or anything...

Now that said I almost went in my pants, scared the crud out of me (never done a wheelie nor will I ever do one again and now gonna have to clean up the seat next time hehe)... after that I cruised home very slowly and respected that throttle.

My lesson of the day...

does the 650R have the ram airflow in it? If so, that would make sense for why it came alive after about 7k rpms

I may be mistaken but I believe thats where that motor begins to make HP and roll out. My 500r is just a smooth cruiser until 6-7k rpms, then it runs.

You're right, the powerband seems to start around 6k and end around 8k. I hate when people say the 650 doesn't have enough power. I've had multiple 600 riders tell me how surprised they were with the power of the 650 after riding it.

I jumped on mine too hard coming out of a turn (in 2nd) and the front came up. Lesson learned.

I've done power wheelies on accident with mine. Show's a bit more personality around 7-8k and becomes a whole new beast at 11-13k. But if i remember correctly the new 650R has around 74hp. Mine stock has 98hp.

You nailed it. I had a 500 and the power kicked in above 7k on that bike. I loved mine. Crank it up and it moved just fine.

Sounds right. The 650 has a lot of low-end torque, then the power kicks in at 6k and really goes until 8k, so you have a lot of room to play with there. It just doesn't have the speed of the 600's.

Definantely does not have the speed of any super sport 600cc out there... but it will hang pretty tight with a 600cc till 50-60mph, then im toast they have it there, gone in a flash...
