Default Wasp sting to the neck tonight

So I've only been riding a few weeks now so everything's relatively new to me. However, I didn't expect a yellowjacket to get stuck in my chinstrap while riding tonight and sting me in the neck! Once I got where I was going I took my helmet off and the bugger fell right out and started crawling around. Man, the pain lasted for hours...I guess it's a rite of passage though huh?

Ouch! I'm glad I wear a full-face, with a closed shield. Even that doesn't keep everything out though.

FYI: ear plugs will keep the critters out of your ears, and you can still hear pretty good. I wore them yesterday for the first time and it was as if they weren't even there. I could talk to my wife as usual and hear planes, birds, sirens, helicopters, etc.

Welcome to the wonderful world of motorcycling! Could have been worse tho- try having one go inside your shirt collar and slide down to your butt crack before he decides he's p/o'd. Ouch!! Luckily for me there was a dumptruck at a country store crossroads. I've seen several bikers just stop on the shoulder of the interstate and drop their drawers to dig out the stinging little bass-turd. Seeing a big, bad, leather clad biker on the side of the road with his pants at his ankles and doing what looks like a rain dance is funny stuff!

Hasn't happened to me yet, fortunately, but a friend of me got stung last week be a wasp or bee and actually ended up in hospital as he showed allergic reactions to the sting - not a good thing at all.

Heh...That's pretty nasty.

Though...

When i was a kid, I left my coke outside on a table. And as kids do, i wondered off to play. Came back 5 minutes later, to take a drink. Come to find out had a bee get in my coke and it stung me under my tongue. Imagine a 5 year old trying to explain to her mother how a BEE stung her tongue... LOL!

Those critters get in ANYTHING...just remember that when you lay your helmet on the ground =)

You have to watch out for insects that may hit your face at 80 mph. But also I learned to resist the impulse to sing while riding with a shorty helmet on. All it took was a bee that got past my teeth and tongue and slammed into the back of my throat right after the second chorus of " I like to move it move it !" Yuck ! At least bugs are mostly protein.

A windshield might help.

One stung me right on my thigh! I got onto the highway and just went "Holy Shyt! that stings!" and i got home and the stinger was in there and it was swollen and itched! ah fun times!

Haven't got stung, but I decided to lift my windshield once and as soon as I pulled it up a fly went right into my eye.

OMG! The same thing happened to me, only we were camping and it was a root beer. Ouch. Being stung on the tongue hurts!

HAHA Welcome to the club! I had a wasp (not yellow jacket) hit me in the neck and crawl down into my jacket. Neither of us were happy, he was obviously less so. When my friends and myself got to our stopping spot I jumped off my bike, tore open my jacket and yanked my shirt up, little bugger buzzed off. 7 welts were counted in all. That's not the only time a stinging insect and I tangoed but that one certainly hurt the worse.

I have had butterflies do the same thing but that is much more pleasant. More like getting tickled to death while riding. Plus girls love it when you open your jacket and butterflies fly out.

37 years and no in transit stings yet, but just as you I have had a fly get into my helmet and walk around eyeballing me, which brings back very nasty nightmares.
Back in the 70' when i was a pipeliner I had a bee land inside my welding helmet. When I finished the rod I was burning I swatted at him with my free arm. Big mistake. I fell 32 feet off the side of the tank we were building.

I feel your pain. I had a bumble bee get under my shirt about a month ago and stung me 10 times before I caught it in folds of my shirt and crushed it.
Those yellowjacket stings are even worse. I have an underground nest of them in my yard and have tried several things to kill them all, but, they are tough little critters.

Don't that just chap yer butt?!! I hate it when that happens!!

Got one stuck between the helment foam & my temple at about 75mph. Little rascal must have been starved cuz he commenced to eatin immediately & nailed me 4 times on the temple before I could get stopped & rip my helment off. Funny how somethin a half inch long can make a 240 lb man stop a 75 mph 800 lb bike in a hundred feet, jump off & start dancing on the side of an interstate highway!

Helpful Hint: don't beat on the side of yer helment in desparation trying to crush the little bass turd cuz that really pizzes em off!
