Returning to the Kaw fold...

Howdy all!
My names Jim and I have come back to the Kawasaki world! My first Kaw (and bike) was an 07 900 Custom, which I loved and was a great starter. I then upgraded to a Yamaha Raider, which I must admit I loved, but having recently paid it off and realizing I needed a more mature ride, I decided to trade it in on the Vaquero:

After making the 2 hour trip to get her home, I have decided that a Mustang seat is going to be my first purchase. What I was hoping is that maybe some of you more experienced Vaquero owners could make some suggestions as to what upgrades/changes/tweaks I am going to want to look into.

Thanks!

That is a beautiful bike. I hope that you get to put lots of miles on it.

That's a sweet looking bike. Unfortunately we here in Australia don't the Vaquero. Its another of the models that didn't come here.

I needed a more mature ride LOL So you go with eye popping orange and flames. thats more mature in my book. (tongue in cheek) Its all good man, one of my favorite bikes has been the Victory thats sort of a apple green with flames. I get you want a more civilized ride. Thats why I went from the 900 vulcan to the RSV Yamaha.
I figured from the couple Voyagers and Vaqueros I have just sit on the first thing to go would be the 2x4 seat. I mean hey it was on the 900 so why not follow suit. They look comfy, but suck over 30 minutes. the Mustang I had on my 900 was an excellent choice, and if your doing any traveling I would strongly recommend the drivers backrest also.
That is a sharp looking scoot friend. Enjoy

Congrats! We have a similar bike history.

Mustang for me was a must, especially with the drivers backrest. I found that the backrest was the biggest improvement for me on the bike as I can use to take pressure off my tail during long rides. I also had to get a taller shield. I went with a Rifle 16" (I also have a 9" dark) both of which i look over due to my height. I have an 11" to 18" baggershield adjustable shield in the mail as we speak so hoping that will solve some of my need to tweak the amount of air I'm getting.

The iPod/mp3 cable was a must for me, I love it. I have a bluetooth module on order right now as well, so I can keep my phone out of the left pocket and on the handlebars in case i need gps.

I also have the KQR quick detach sissy bar, v&h slashcuts, pcV processor, roland sands designs air cleaner with k&n filter, auxiliary lights, iso grips with RACNRAY's mod (might want to google that if the new Vaqs are experience throttle lag) and some other mods (rear end declutter, added some lights to the bags, highway pegs...) Don't want to hijack with pics but if you have any questions I'd be happy to give my .02! Nice ride and great choice! :)

Since I last posted, I have indeed added the Mustang w/driver backrest, and also the passenger backrest for the wife. I also added a set of Cobra slip ons, the cig lighter, mp3 cable, K&N Filter, and some led strips. I found RACNRAY on the other vulcan forum, and he did me up a set of avons. I have added a 16" windshield, its clear but I painted the bottom part so from a bit back it looks stock. The best part about that is that I can know hear my new Infinty speakers at highway speed, no problem.

Last but not least, I put in on of those new Cree LED headlight bulbs, and I gotta say its pretty awesome. I did have an HID setup, but this is giving me the same light output with none of the problems.

Obligatory pics:

What kind of issues did the HID cause you? I have swapped my regular bulb out years ago for an HID. The Yamaha Venture has a moulded in non removable lens, so a complete swap to the HD type LED is impossible. WE have had a couple guys put the CREE LED bulbs in but I have not heard to much back after the swap. About the same price I think.

Yes, my CREE bulb was about the same price as my HID kit. The HID was always a bit slow to warm to full brightness, but the LED is at full bright, "instant -on". From the day I installed it, the HID was giving me a flickering on the low side, even after installing some cancellers that were supposed to stop that (just made the flickering faster). I replaced evey component of the kit, but nothing worked. Then one night on my way to work, it started strobing on and off, then died completely. I put in the CREE LED and haven't regretted it once yet.

Wow and how! That would be a difficult bike to upgrade man. An awesome and cool ride for sure. Best looking Vaquero that I have ever seen. Have fun on the road.

Lrdofh8, great looking bike. Did you use just a bulb or did you need a ballast or some other parts. What is the part number of the parts if you remember them?
