Project "Saki Bob"

Well, I've been riding for 15 years or so, mostly sport bikes, but have always admired the VN800's. So right before Christmas I bought one . Found a pretty good deal on a 98 classic, love the fat front tire, for $2k and it already had V&H Drag pipes on it. Looks like it will make a perfect foundation for a bobber project. Hopefully as I start this, I can use this thread to ask questions and get suggestions from you guys that have inspired me to bob my 800. Stay tuned for pics

Re: Project "Saki Bob"

I think you should paint it brown, with green and yellow flames...just kidding, will keep an eye out for the pics. FYI: post pics in another place like facebook or photobucket then copy the URL address for them, then on your post click the insert image icon and paste the address in it. This will allow your pics to come up with the post and not as an attachment. Plus they will only let you have 4 attachments...will keep my eyes open on this thread.

I too look forward to seeing pictures of your bobber project. I will be starting mine at some point this month. Will start a tread with pictures of my build as well.

Re: Project "Saki Bob"

Nice name. I threw around some names for a while trying to play off of Kawasaki. Kawboy, Saki bomb...etc. I like Saki bob though. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Re: Project "Saki Bob"

I actually thought of "saki bomb" too and my wife said, "It's a bobber right? Why not Saki Bob?" I figure if I give credit where its due, maybe she will "allow" me more time in the garage...

Here is how the bike looked the day I picked it up

Then within a few hours, I had this...

Later, I spooned on some wide whites

Re: Project "Saki Bob"

I watched a few solo seats on EvilBay untill I settled on one I liked an scored a good deal on a La Rosa Designs from City Choppers. Got it with in a few days and now just have to figure how to mount the back end. I wet sanded the tank to give it a bit more of an aged look then mocked up the seat and heres where she sits now:

Re: Project "Saki Bob"

Seems like a lot of guys here that have the skinny front tire A model have gone with apes for bars. I think I might go the other direction with my fat B model and throw on some low drag bars and see how it looks. Picked up a rear fender today at a trailer supply house and will try to trim it up and get it mounted this wknd.
