Hi guys Iíve been looking for a kz650 motor in good condition on eBay for a quite some time now and canít seem to find one but I see a lot of kz750 on there in good shape and was wondering if it would be a straight swap without having to change anything such as the coil pack the header etc.
Please and thank you for your help
The KZ750 4-cylinder engine is a direct swap. However, depending upon what 650 it is,
you may need the 750-4 ignition coils, igniter & voltage regulator.
The 77-80 650s had points ignition & various charging systems.
The 81-83 650-CSR stuff is the same as the 750-4.
The 700's Kawasaki air cooled fours were alwasy supposed to be 750s. they were debored for a couple of years to 700 only for the US market because of political reasons; read Harley Davidson asked the US government to impose a tariff on foreign bikes (all but Harleys) over 700 cc to help Harley recover finantially. The US government complied, thus Japanese manufacturers debored their 750 to 700 to avoid the tariff while it lasted, everything else was the same so yes, the 700 will take the 750 because they are essentially the same engine. The frames were same.
