KZ 305 CSR - Leaking gas cap

I just bought this bike a month ago and when I bought it the paint on the tank was already all streaked from gas leaking out. In my quick series of homemade tests, I've found that it seems to only come out when the tank has been heated in the sun and the gas gets sloshed around. I think the heated air inside presses up and "breaks" the seal of the cap. I filled it up to the very top yesterday and shook the bike all around with no leaking at all.

Anybody have a solution for this? I'm looking to repaint the tank but want to verify that I'm not going to have gas leaking onto my new paint job and ruining it later on.

Is the fuel cap gasket hard? A new gasket is available at the Kawasaki dealer. Z1Enterprises has it as well. Mine was rock hard.
