Here's a video of me riding the "Tail of the Dragon" near Deals Gap NC. 'sorry for the low rez. Vimeo wouldn't allow me to post the full rez version for free. That's one off the bucket list!

If my attemp at embedding doesn't work, here's a link.....

Thanks. It was certainly really fun. We went on a late afternoon, weekday in July and the crowds were not bad at all as you can see in the video. I've heard that it can be quite busy on the weekends. It's great to have braggin' rights and some patches for my jacket.

The whole area of the Blue Ridge has some great riding. We also did a good stretch of the Blue Ridge Pkwy and loved it! Up at that altitude the air was cool and shady most of the time. I should have brought an extra layer as I'd say that it's 5-10 degrees cooler up on the ridge. I just wore a long sleeve shirt and a leather vest and at times, it was a little chilly, not uncomfortably so though.
We rented a bike trailer from U-Haul for 15 bucks a day to get us down from Ontario to Asheville. Then we did a bunch of touring from there.

Would I do it again? Yes.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes.

Here's a photo of me on the Blue Ridge Pkwy.

Cool beans! Good deal!!

For folks who have never been it truly is some great riding out that way. It's a bit far for me to day trip it but Hoyt is absolutely correct- ride The Dragon on a weekday and it's not bad at all. Don't worry about routing or finding the "best" roads or whatever, you simply can't go wrong in those areas with any roads you find yourself on. I'm planning a trip near the end of this month to include the Wheels Through Time museum and riding the last remaining parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway that I've never been on.
