C/10 Custom Super Sport
GM did not build a Super Sport version in the pickup truck line in 1972 so I did. I gave it the same options and badging that the 1972 396/SS Chevelle had beginning with an authentic 1969 L34 396, but I didn't stop there. The motor was bored .060" and a set of forged aluminum domed pistons were added. I installed a set of closed chamber 3964290 (high compression) heads with some machine work done for unleaded gasoline. Comp-Cams forged roller rockers, a Camp-Cam 268HE cam, a Weiand aluminum dual plane high rise intake topped off with a custom Clff Ruggles Quadrajet. MSD Pro Billet ignition, Hedman long tube ball socket collector ceramic coated headers w/3" Thrush Welded Turbo mufflers. I tooled up and schooled up to build my own "Super Turbo-350" transmissions capable of withstanding 650 HP. I also built the 4:56 12-Bolt Posi-Traction rear end to handle launching 5000 lbs without bending or breaking suspension components. The truck turns 12 second 1/4 mile ET's with 1.6 sec. 60' foot times. Those ET's are what the bike turns by the way. By todays standards 12 seconds aint all that, but in the 70's 12 second 1/4 mile times were hard to reach in a street legal anything...
