I have been checking gas mileage in my 02 zx6r, to my surprise I found when ever I used 87oct gas I consistently got 50-52 miles to a gallon. When ever I used 93 oct I always got 43-45 miles to a gallon. (I do a reserve to reserve calculation) I still haven't tried the 89 though.
Now it makes me wonder if my engine is running better on 87 oct gas. I know Kawi says DO NOT use anything less than 90.
I also know that the previous owner had re-jetted the carbs. Could this be playing a role here?
Every time I use 87 oct I feel a little guilty.

The 6R didn't get FI until '03, right? Then use 87 because you're not getting any benefits from using the higher grade gas anyway (higher burning temp). Though I don't doubt that you're getting better gas mileage too.
