07 zzr600 Question

7028 Views 36 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Omar1234
First off let me start off by saying im not a totally experienced rider, but I know what is going on safety wise and gear wise, Ive rode off and on for a year and rode dirtbikes all growing up. I understand this is not a toy but I had a few questions.

Im 6'6 235, and thinking about purchasing a zzr600 (07) tomorrow. Im a fan of the zx6r and the gsxr 600's but they feel a bit cramped. More so the zx than the gsxr, but I found this zzr used. Was curious as to if you would recommend this bike, anyone have any reviews? I am going for the sport bike way, and want to stunt a bit too down the road. Would you recommend this bike? I like how it feels because it didn't really lose the aggressive riding style that I like, but would like some more opinions on if I would regret this decision in a few months

The ZZR600 is the '01 ZX-6R with higher handle bars. it has 111hp and weighs 377lbs. I have one and i love it. it's ergos are less cruel than the ZX-6R, while retaining the sportbike posture... it has easily has enough power to loop.. I can't imagine anyone regretting buying one.

it has about 20HP less at the rear wheel than the current ZX-6R.

+1...You are on the tall side by a mile..I am surprised the ergos of the ZX killed you...Though the ZZR is a nice ride as well. It will be a great bike for you if you have ridden already...Same concept. You are making a pretty good decision. The ZZR has more than enough power to keep up with many newer bikes.
Love mine to death, the ZZR is carbed and I am not sure if that will effect the stunting, example: slow long 12 oclock wheelies? But yeah the ZZR is a great bike and most of all great people ride them!

LOL

the shape of the tank was the problem... I had to bend my spine around the tank to reach the bars... the ZZR's higher bars prevent it... The 10R fit me nice.... not ready for that yet..
atleast you can admit to not needed the 10r.... but yeah... it should do you fine.
Like I said, im going for the sportbike look/feel.

How does this bike compare to an r6, or a gsxr 600? even a cbr?

You guys dont feel I would regret this decision, but im having second thoughts. Im not interested in having a sport/tourer type bike, which ive been reading about with the zzr600, I ride hard, and want to make sure this bike wont lose my interest

it has the sport bike position.... you're not upright like if you were on a 650R or a connie. The CBR is boring... which is pretty much honda's forte, IMHO... the R6 will be slower than the ZZR unless you like running through town at 11Krpm all the time... I can't honestly say I've ever sat on a gixxer600.

and if you want an even more aggressive position, just lower the clip-ons.
HP and speed wise, what am I looking at with a zzr600. I am having cold feet because I am suppose to go sign for this 07 tomorrow, but am having second thoughts thinking I will not like it seeing as I have been riding bikes such as gsxr and r6's and whatnot
you're down about 10hp on the Gixxer, and like I said before unless you're spinning the absolute hell out of the R6 ALL the time... the ZZR will be faster. It will have absolutely no problem keeping up with either bike on the street.

The ZZR will only go 156mph.
that 10hp can be gained mod wise

Is the zzr a highly modifiable bike?

also..

zzr>katana? performance wise
Dude.... I already said this once... the '07 ZZR600 IS the '01 ZX-6R... every mod available for that generation of ZX-6R will work on the ZZR. The ZZR has about 30RWHP on the katana...

I reach if I am just at a stop but when I am on the highway and road I am tucked all the time...actually if I am not tucked it feel awkward. 10R is a lot of bike by all stretch of the imagination...However, if you keep it nice and real, it is a great street bike and commuter. I swear I love commuting on it more than any of my other 2 bikes.

About right...ZZR = to R6...Not sure on that but they are different bikes in a way...ZZR now a sport tourer but I still found it very aggressive in regards to my seating position...Having owned a CBR, yes, it is soooo blah...Good overall bike but it really is not thrilling. That is me. R6 is aggressive, talking about the old one as well...Nice ride though but the seat height for the new one is silly tall....Gixxers are also nice but a dime a dozen...If you are looking at Gixxers and R6 and CBR why not the new ZX6...That bike gets great reviews. PB or was is BIKE reviewed one as a long traveler and they loved it...

Katana is old do not consider it...Too heavy as well.

Between the gixxer, R6, CBR, ZX6, and ZZR...I would get them in this order...

1) ZX6 (Yes, that was a tie for my 2nd choice along with the Gixxer 750 after my 10R)
2) Gixxer 600 - Great bike but looks goes to ZX6.
3) R6 - Too tall and to high revved.
4) CBR- Blah as good as it is, blah does not do it for me.

I am talking in terms of latest models...
One of the things I feel people consistently overlook when comparing new bikes, is that to get all that wonderful horsepower, you have to be in the upper RPM ranges. Most of todays supersports don't have the midrange that the same size bikes had 15 years ago. My 636 is a wonderful ride, don't get me wrong, but it sees the 'real powerband' so infrequently (due to not wanting to attract attention, and corners that arrive much too quickly) that my next project is going to be to resurrect my old GPz 550.

That ZZR was the best bike you could get only a few years ago, and the minor difference in HP isn't (IMHO) going to be noticeable on the street, if you're sane at least. Plus with your size, you'll be more comfortable on the ZZR, which is a huge consideration if you're going to do more than ride to the local hangout and polish the bike. ;)

Added bonus: Passing a new 600 in a corner with an old 600 is always more fun that the other way around.

Close, but not exactly. It is the same bike as the '02 ZX-6r except it does not have the front fairing stay, and different paint options. Other than that the bikes are identical, geometry included.
Yeah...if you feel cramped in the zixxer then all the other's are going to be exactly the same...who cares on how they perform...at your weight and your height all of them are going to be exactly the same. To be honest you would look ridiculous on a 600! I'm 6'1 and that's really pushing it on a 600...6'6 you should be looking at something a little bigger.

I once saw a guy who played basketball at my school, must have been around 6'6-6'7 and he owned a 03zx6r in silver. I couldn't help but laugh with my friends on how stupid he looked on that bike.

I know, I know, looks aren't the #1 thing when it comes to buying a bike, but come on...6'6 on a 600, you'll make people cry with laughter:biggrin: . Do yourself a favor, buy a sport tourer and when your ready move to the liter, or busa or 14.

I'm 5'4" doesnt mean i cant ride a ZX10! Don't let your size... big or small really affect your decision unless its really affects comfort.... if comfort is the issue.... dont get a sports bike.
