Hi all,
So, I’ve been riding my build with no problem this summer. Until I noticed an oil burning smell and white smoke coming from my left exhaust. Ended up pulling the head off and found a bent exhaust valve. Bought a nos exhaust valve & new seals. Putting back together was going good. Got the cam timed and it back to tdc on the right side. Put the rockers on and was going in to set the clearance and noticed the gap on the intake side is extremely huge. It’s also a got a huge gap on the left intake side at tdc. Funny thing is that both exhaust valve clearances are on point at tdc, was able to set them. Anybody know anything about this or had this issue before? Really stumping me. (Photos are of right cylinder)

I have never had this bike apart to that level, but I notice the camshaft is bolted to its drive gear with two bolts. Is it possible to bolt the gear onto the camshaft 180 degrees out of phase? If so that would mess with your camshaft timing marks that are on that gear. Just a guess. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this engine can weigh in soon or maybe you can confirm that it is not possible to assemble the gear incorrectly.
