1984 ZN 700 LTD

Can anyone tell me more about my 1984 ZN 700 LTD? Are they rare, or just hard to find parts for? I have searched all over the internet and can't find much of anything. I bought it from a guy who said it was a KZ750, but after a little research (matching photos and descriptions) determined what it was. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

i hate not getting at least one reply to my post. so here is one for yours. In 84 there was a big thing about japanize bikes being too powerfull. so the guv passed an import law. the bike makers tuned them down and droped the 50 of there bikes 650-600, 750-700,ect. i am remimbering this from something in the news the facts might not be exact. a 83 manual for the 750 should cover most of the stuff on your bike. but then again i do not have one so i could be wrong here also. but still i at leaste am making a guess. good luck ...God bless....Mack
ZN700A Ltd

Hi,
I just bought a ZN700A Ltd and am having the same problems you are.
Right now I'm trying to figure out what the red button on the left grip is for and what the other red light on the right side of the light display panel is for. Did you find a manual for it?
Haven't found one yet. One of the guys on the forum gave me the number to a shop that specializes in Kawi parts and stuff...I haven't called them yet.....they are called Beartooth Kawasaki 1-800-556-3098.

I am going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get a cruise control for my KZ550. I went to Altanta this past weekend to buy a 1980 Kawi 750 LTD....but there were too many things wrong with it, so I didn't buy it. I am just put another bid on another 750 LTD on ebay.

Me, Mack and the kids are planning on going for a long ride this summer. So we are looking for another bike that will ride two up comfortably.

84 LTD

I just bought an 84 LTD 700A and have the original manual if you need some info I can help you with. I need a right front turn signal arm if anyone out there has one. I'm going to start looking for parts today so will probably find out what you already know about scarcity of parts if there is one.
I FEEL YOUR PAIN

I have a 1984 700 ltd and i am in search of a lower pick up coil......Kawasaki doesn't make it any more and i need one bad....if anyone has any information on the where abouts of one please email me at

Sorry, not quite. The reason the 750 got dropped to 700 was because of the Harley tariff. The gov. added extra taxes on all imported bikes over 700cc to help pay for their bailout of the last U.S. motorcycle manufacturer. In 1987 Harley petitioned for an early end to the 5-year tariff (tax) and 750 Japanese bikes were back full force.
I know that it has been a long time since you posted this. I have just purchased an 84 ZN 700 A1 LTD and would really like to have specs on the carbs. I would appreciate any and all info on this matter as soon as possible. Thanks.
do a search on e bay "kawasaki ltd" . all kinds of stuff on there for 700's. also on kawasaki's website you can pull up part diagram and part numbers. i have an 84 zn1100. use e bay and got everything i needed. good luck guys.
The 700s are quite rare due to their very limited production. There are a few around KZ Rider so you might also ask there as well to meet up with other owners.
I have a KZ700A of 84 vintage, I took the engine for a 78 650SR and have many parts left including a titled frame
I found the engine to be the same as the 750(non us) except for smaller pistons, I have a manual for 750s from 80 to 85, even the wiring diagrams match.
84 700 Ltd

So, are you saying that the 700 and 750 are the same with the exception of the pistons?
this is what I have found they are the same, cams heads rods ect and was told by a reputable motorcycle shop the same thing
Our 84 700 LTD only has 4,000 miles and looks brand new (show room fresh). The dealer that had this bike had been working on the carbs and couldn't get them to stop leaking and gave up on the bike. We acquired it and thought we were smarter than they were (wrong!) and put carb kits in it, reset the floats, etc... and guess what!! the carbs still leak. We then pulled the carbs off of a 650 CSR and now it doesn't run at all. So we are back to the stock carbs and the leaking problem. Have any of you had such problems and do you have any ideas on how to correct the leaking?? Thanks.

A few questions-
Leaking when running or shut down?
Leaking into crankcase or external leak?
1 carb or all?

It leaks when it is shut down. It is leaking externally as if the floats were stuck open. At least two of the cars are leaking. We have installed new needles. They didn't come with seats but the seats look good and they are clean. Also the petcock appears to be seeping which may explain a possible vacuum leak from the number two carb as it is dead at idle but kicks in under acceleration. Thank you.
sounds like new float needles and seats along with a good cleaning are needed. course they'll need to be sync'd. if the petcock is vacuum type it may need a rebuild or a least new vac lines. Check with QKENUF4U or elr658 about rebuilding / sync.
82 GPZ1100 Eddie Lawson?

Now, I have a completely different bike that I have questions on. It is a 1982 GPZ1100 with a commemorative Eddie Lawson sticker under the factory clear coat in the center of the tank. I can't find any information on a Eddie Lawson GPZ1100. All I can find info on is the 1000 or the current 1200. Do you by any chance know of a site that I can go to or do you know anything about this bike? It is lime green. Thanks for any insight that you can give me. We are going to be starting on this project soon. mulliganmc

The ELR's were 1000cc bikes. Could have engine swap to 1100cc or be a clone like I'm making. The ELR decal on top of the tank is a repop available from a couple of places.
There are sites for the ELR's, search under Eddie Lawson. There is also a Gpz site but they are mostly about the late model Gypsy's.
