So you think that it has been repainted and the sticker put on the tank before the clear coat? And while I am asking stupid questions...do you know how to read a VIN#? Thanks.

may be a clone.

start a new thread about the vin or do a search. pretty sure that question has come up before. i don't know how to decode one.
could you post a pic of the elr?

ZN700A1 or 700LTD

I am the proud owner of a 1984 Kawasaki 700 LTD. It is original with the exception of factory accessory highway bars and pegs. I am the original owner, purchased this beauty new out of crate in 1987. She had 1.1 miles on it at the time.
I purchased the original Kawasaki factory service manual way back then so have it for reference should anyone need. If I do not answer a post, just E-Mail me ([email protected])
The manual: The core bike on this model line is the KZ750-Shaft. This manual covers '82 KZ750-N1 & -P1; '83 KZ750-N2, -P2 & F1; '84 ZN700-A1, ZN750-A1, Z750-P3; '85 ZN700-A2, ZN750-A2 & Z750-P4; '87 Z750-P5. I point this out because the above bikes are all very similar thus have some interchangeable parts. For instance, the difference between the 84 700LTD A1 and the 85 700LTD A2 is mainly color. The 84 is black, the 85 is red. Also, Kaw added frame supports at the front tree in 85. Apart from that everything is interchangeable on the two bikes.
Feel free to ask about specs or information from the manual.

Ride on!

Yes they are rare. The 84 and 85 700 LTD were only made for two years there are many interchangeable parts with others if you have a manual look to see what all models it covers. Most shops here in Colorado will help cross reference. Good luck.

An ELR was a 1982 KZ1000R. An 83 is NOT an ELR. An 83 is a Superbike Replica. A KZ1000R1 had a J model motor with stock carbs and jetting, a 3 row GPz1100 oil cooler, a Kerker KR pipe with no centerstand. Black Chrome K&N Eddie Lawson bend Superbike bars. A notched seat (also avail through Kawasaki Accessories at the time) The frame had additional rake, the fork had stiffer damping, Kidney crusher fake Works shocks. K300 and K300m tires. All chrome was black chrome. The tank was BASED on a 81 GPz 1100 (it had different gauge sender mounting) I THINK a KZ1000J3 tank is the same. A ZRX, although a great bike is NOT an ELR. Mine's been 150MPH. (NOT stock.) And an R in the seventh position of the vin, for a US bike.

Want to see one in a picture. Look at my Member of the Month, May 2008.
