I bought a used Bayou 220 a few months ago. According to the the VIN it's a 1992. After some investigation, I discovered that it has no rectifier/regulator, no battery, and none of the starting electronics at all. The 2 yellow wires leading from the magneto that are supposed to go to the rectifier just disappear into a harness that I have not cut open.

It runs strong, somehow. My question is how is it possible to run without a battery? How is the CDI receiving power? I have found zero info on the internet about this and it's super confusing.

Maybe it was wired to have the magneto directly power the CDI? Like with unregulated power?

Thanks!

Ok, so I just figured this out on me own. Older models had an A/C powered CDI, newer ones had a D/C powered CDI. The older models are able to run with no battery because of this.
