And google " judge's oil gear " for a fix without splitting the cases, IF it has not already been changed, might be able to peek with a small inspection camers or pull the side cover.

Back in the day, Kawasaki was standing behind these and fixing them no charge up to 10 years old. odds are it's been done.

I saw one of those at a rally in AR a number of years back with 300,000 miles on it.

No it actually hasn't been done sitting here looking at it now it's yellow plastic wheel behind the clutch in the middle of rebuilding the clutch plates as well as shifting linkage

Welding a new gear on to the old shaft actually sounds like a better solution,

Those bikes produced only around 64 H.P.. That is a lot of displacement for such small output. I wouldn't touch one of these a 10 foot pole. Lots of issues pop up with these bbikes, while you see others loving them to death. Not my style bike. It must be a thirsty bike. The specs don't read very well...... IMHO :)
