I just got a 2000 VN1500 Classic from my son (took it off his hands, he's a new daddy and needs the money). I just changed out the back brake pads but when I got to the front I couldn't get the caliper away from the rotor due to the close proximity of the wheel. Do I have to take the tire off or is there a work around for this?

Also, does anyone know the oil capacity for the 1500?

I don't think my son got a owners manual unless it's in a compartment somewhere on the bike.

Thanks.

Yeah, work the loose caliper back and forth and get the pistons squeezed back into the housing then you'll find the sweet spot where it just comes right off. Note that reinstalling with new pads is just as much fun.

Welcome to the forum and congrats to both of you for the new additions!

I've found the clymers manual Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1500 Repair Manual 1996-2004 to be invaluable for the kind of stuff you sound like you may want to do. Shop around a bit, sometimes you can find them cheaper.
