As some of you know, my son's crank blew on his 2004 KX85. I know the 02-05 crankcases are the same, but the 2006 has a different part number. I can get one at a good price, only a few dollars more than a new crank and kit. Anyone know that it will fit? It could be something minor, including a part inside or oil capacity, that resulted in a changed part number. thanks!

It will work with no problems. Just bolt on your top end and go.
They did make a few very minor changes ie. the crankshaft now has the primary gear held on with a left hand threaded nut instead of a snap ring, and a different rotor and stator assembly. You can run either stator/rotor assembly, just don't mix the parts from a 2005 and older model with parts from a 2006 and newer model. The newer stator assembly also must be matched up with the CDI, Coil and Kill switch from a newer unit as the plug-ins are all different. But as I said you could run either complete system, just don't mix the components.
