I got my son a 96 kx65. Went to take it for a ride and noticed the shifter was not coming back down into place after shifting. Took the clutch cover off nothing looked broken all springs are in place. Is it possible that the shift rod going through the transmission to the clutch side is bent in springs are worn?

your clutch cover is worn. Inside it has a stop to keep shift shaft from moving outward.
