2007 Vulcan 500 rear amber lights

I am truly a newbie. First bike ever so this may be a really ridiculous question. I bought a 2007 Vulcan 500. Love it so far. Here's the question.
I noticed when I start the bike the lights in the front come on (headlight and both amber lights) but only the rear brake light comes on (the 2 rear amber lights are off). The rear amber lights only come on when I turn on the signals. Is this normal or should the rear amber lights be on all the time also?

Thanks for your help.

Wow! that was fast. Thanks for the quick response. I'm glad there's nothing wrong with the bike but disappointed that the lights wouldn't be on all the time. Just seems like the more lights on the better. Oh well. Thanks again!

Wait, both amber lights go on when your bike is just running? I never noticed that on my bike. Maybe I should look closer, but for some reason, that doesn't seem right.

I've added some extra brake lights to my bike that are on all the time just like the regular light. They're not terribly noticeable during the day, but work great at night. I'm gonna add a flasher module so they flash when I apply the brakes sometime before the spring.

Perfectly normal. Running lights on the rear of vehicles, assuming you are in the USA, are required to be red. Amber running lights are ok in the front. This is why the front signal lights are on all the time but the rear ones are not.

I did mine a little differently. I still get compliments on it. http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/projects-how-write-ups/12916-turn-signal-mod-w-pics.html
