Not sure of the specs for your bike but for my 81 1000 the procedure to check the pickup coils is as follows. Set meter to Rx100 measure across the pair of wires to each coil. Resistance should be 360-540 ohms. Next set meter to highest scale and check resistance from each lead to chassis ground. Resistance should be infinite. If pickup coil fails either of these test check the wiring. If the wiring is good, replace the coil.

For the IC Igniter. Remove one of each pair of spark plugs and ground it against the cylinder with the plug wire still attached. Disconnect the 4-pole coupler from the pickup coils. Turn the ignition on. Connect a positive 12 volt source to the black lead and a negative 12 volt to the blue lead. As the voltage is connected the plug should spark. Do not apply the 12 volts for more than a few seconds or the ign coil could be damaged. Repeat this test for the other pair with +12 to the yellow lead and -12 to the red lead. If igniter fails this test, replace it.
