This is my first time visiting these forums. I am a member of Club3G because I own a 2000 Eclipse GT. So, I figured since I got a project bike I can gather information from you fellas on this forum.

Here is the story so far...

My uncle has a friend that wrecked a 1985 Kawasaki Ninja 600 a little while back. We were talkin about it the other day and my uncle said at one time he was selling it for $125 because he wanted to get it out of his sight. I told him we should buy it and see if it is worth fixing. As far as we know the engine wasnt damaged in the wreck. We figured even if it wasnt worth fixing we could part the good parts on the bike out and get our 125 bucks back.

So, we called him today and luckily he still had it. We went and picked it up and brought it home.
The frame is bent a little on the back. Fairly sure it will bend back like we want it. Most of the fairings are gone. The wheels are in decent shape. It still has a gauge, which is probably worth what we paid for the bike. The wiring seems good. The man said as far as he knows the motor will turn over, but he wasn't positive. The carburetors were uncovered, so we are gonna have to tear it apart and clean the gunk out of it.

Any advice? Opinions? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.
This will be our first attempt at anything like this, but we have experience with everything from cars to atvs to dirt bikes. Hopefully that will help us finish this "resurrection" within the next month or so.

I have taken on some pretty tough projects but I don't know if I would tackle this one.

If you cruise around Ebay you will find enough parts to put it back together but I think I would start with something a little better. I don't see how you could ever come out $ wise even with all your own labor.

If you decide to part it out let me know. I could use the handle bars if they are straight.

Good luck,
Mike

Yea it is probly gonna take some devotion. What steers you away from it? Is there a couple major things that are just really hard or you just do not think this one is worth the time?
My uncle and I are splitting the cost between each other, so I thought it would work out alright cost wise.

If we decide its too much and wanna part it out, I will let you know. The clutch handles has a slight curve in it, but the throttle handle is fine.

We got a little work done on it today. We stripped all the plastic and wires. It is down to the frame and engine. Tomorrow we are gonna try to turn the engine over and probly drop it out of the frame. If we have problems with the engine and cant seem to diagnose them, we are probly gonna part it out. I got my fingers crossed.

I got a question...
I'm not sure if it is called a coil pack, but that is what we have been referring to it as. The bike didn't have one. No plug wires either. All of the other wires seem to be in good shape. None have been hacked on.
Is it called a coil pack, and where can I get one for a good price?

If you need any info/pics of something let me know. I just finished one 86 and am starting on another.

The first one can be found here.

1986 Ninja ZX600A

I don't have many pics of the second one yet. Will probably finish it next spring.

Good luck.

I applaud your enthusiasm
Thanks
Today we attempted to remove the plugs. There was rust all around them so we had to chip around the edges just to get a socket on them. Well, once we got the socket on them and tried to break them loose, they literally broke. Two plugs were removed without any problem and took were broken at the threads. We put some penetrating oil in all four wholes and tomorrow we plan to see if the engine will turn over like the guy we bought it from said it would. If it does, then we will worry about getting the other halves of the plugs out.
