I have a 1986 Ninja 1000R. I love the bike, but it is getting harder and harder to find parts for it. The other day I was riding along, and the bike just plain quit. I tried to restart, but there was no juice left in the battery. The battery was brand new only a couple of months ago, so I knew that it must be something to do with the alternator. After some tests with a mechanic, we confirmed that the voltage regulator had gone bad. I called our local Kawasaki shop and they want $260.00 for this little part.

The question I have is: Has anyone successfully repaired their voltage regulator? It looks like a standard part that just need to be de-soldered, and replaced. I went down to our local electronics shop and found a regulator that looks identical, but I do not know the specs off of the one that I have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
