I have an '89. Here's what I learned durring my replacement:
Loosen the nuts below on the crank case all the way (as far as they will go). Having a friend handy to will help when you route the new cable, and take note where the old one goes before you remove it. Loosen the adjustment screw near the lever too. When your done, adjust it so you have 1/8- 1/4 inch of movement in the lever before the clutch is engaged. There should be about 2-3 mm of play it lever also before the cable is engaged. As I remember, it was'nt too difficult once I loosened everything.
