I have a 1989 Bayou 300 4x4 KLF300C hard starting when cold. When cranking the engine and you choke it the motor backfires thru the carb or kicks back. Sometimes it kick back so hard you can hear a loud clang. Changed battery and checked the valves and timing and they are set by the book. After a while of cranking you can get it started and it idles and run perfect. I can shut it off and it starts right back up, but after the engine cools it starts all over again. I'm lost and was wonder if the carb can cause this? Thanks

change the spark plug first. Do NOT clean it. They are not cleanable. Replace it.

If no change, try tapping on the CDI while cranking. If it changes anything, the CDI is bad.
