I am looking to fit a removable windshield to my 900 Classic to help whilst highway cruising but am not sure what size I should go for. I am 6'4" and have fitted a Saddlemen Solo seat which sits me about 1/2 inch lower. I have read on various posts that it's best to look over the windshield not through it and that Memphis Shades seem to do the removable thing pretty well. The question is, what size??? 21", 19" etc

Go to the Memphis website and locate a local dealer. They should have a shield that is marked up with measurments. They hold it up where it would be and then you can get the right size. Make sure to order the larger headlight cutout. I think the options are 9 or 11 inch. If you don't have a local dealer I bet if you give them a call they can help you figure it out.

Definately look over the windshield. I ride year round in the Portland area. When it rains at night, I would be completely blind looking through the windshield.

As far as height, I second the Memphis Shades site as a reference.

I bought a 19" Slim with the small (7") cutout. I am 5'8" and the shield is just right for me at it highest adjustment (there isn't a lot of room to move it). I would guess you would need a taller windshield.

The 7" cutout was too small, but I was able to file out the cutout and it looks like a custom shield.

I bought my shield from Parts 411. Best prices I've seen on the Memphis Shades windshields.

Cheers,

Memphis or Factory ?

Don't know what the Memphis cost, but I ordered a factory shield for my 900 Classic. Didn't order the "V" badge ($50 extra). I liked the wider bands of chrome. It's adjustable, fits the headlight, and I don't have buffeting problems. Factory shield ran $320 from my dealer w/ no discount.
Haven't tried to remove it, but it looks like two bolts on each side and she'd be off.
My buddy to the left has a Memphis on his bike. The factory shield has a little different shape, and you can't get one tinted.

The Memphis Shades is a nice windshield, but if you think you want a lightbar later, make sure you really like the Big Bike Contour lightbart, because that is the only lightbar you will get to fit with it! the Memphis Shades does come off pretty quick and easy, but you have to have someone help you measure for it. It is better to look OVER it than through it.
Good luck!

I have the MS 19" with the quick release bracket. Dealer got it for me and installed it for $280. I am 6' even and it is just the correct height for me. Nice windshield. When I bought a windshield bag, I found one that had a metal reinforcing strap inside the bag with one hole in the center. All I had to do was remove the acorn nut in the center of the windshield and replaced it with a regular nut (didn't really have to change it out, but it doesn't take up as much room inside the bag that way) and bolt it on. No modification needed to anything.

Here is what it looks like:
