95 Kawasaki Bayou 220 not starting

I just got done with a complete engine overhaul and I got everything put back together and went to try to start it up and nothing. My starter relay keeps clicking, and I am in neutral since my neutral indicator light is on. My solenoid I think is bad because even trying to cross the post on it and I get nothing I currently have one ordered. I was wondering how to check spark and compression the easy way. I don't have any fancy tools really. I am able to jump the starter and it does spin but it doesn't crank the engine over as far as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated.
