just got my hands on a very nice 1500. the only problem i think is wrong with it is that it jerks at take off and whines when i decellerate, this is my first time dealing with a shaft driven bike. it has around 7500 miles on it. i guess my question is, is this normal. thanks

when you say jerks, what exactly do you mean? are you dumping the clutch? when you say whine, what do you mean? anyway to be more specific?

it jerks like it is trying not to slip, and the whine is not that noticable so i really don't know. i am going to change the oil this weekend and hopefully that helps. one guy told me it is the drive shaft going out but with only 7500 miles i don't think so. well i hope not anyway. i am coming from a suzuki tl1000r super vtwin bike so it is all new to me.

While you're checking fluids, take a peek at the final drive level/condition too.
what should i look for. level as in fluid level or level as in straight?
Check the fluid level. It should come up just to the bottom of the opening (see large screw). If you can't see it, poke your finger down there. If you can't feel oil, it's low.

Go out on the bike, get in top gear at low speed, and roll on the throttle. Chances are you will get the same jerking, which is probably driveshaft troubles. I had a Honda Shadow with the same symptoms.

re

did they show you the screen with shavings on it?
if not get a second opinion

7500 is low miles to be having internal probs-although possible
