I am finding a lot of parts are no longer available for my 1988 mule 1000. Has anybody replace the motor with a Briggs V-twin Vanguard or Predator V-twin motor? I am looking for more of a bolt in option with heavy fitment modification. Also does the new motor have a CW or CCW rotation.
Is better to find an original motor and deal with preowned parts if something fails.

I doubt you will find anything that is a "bolt in" option. I have not heard of anyone attempting such a swap. Not to say it cannot be done, but I think it would be a huge undertaking involving cutting and welding. And that is assuming that the engine can physically fit into the space and as you note, rotates in the correct direction.

Have you looked into purchasing a donor mule? Find one that has suffered an accident, fire or trashed drive train and salvage the engine for spare parts.
