Hello all!
Just been handed down a 79 kz1000 LTD.
It is leaking oil out of the alternator cover (maybe the wire grommet) and I notice a bolt missing from the lower bolt hole in the cover. I am buying a new grommet and I am looking at replacing the missing bolt. Does anyone know what size this particular bolt is? I can’t seem to find it in the manual.

Most likely you have a worn out crank seal. There should be no oil in the alternator chamber, if there is then the main seal on the crankshaft is worn and leaking. Engine needs to be split to replace it.
And the bolt is a M6 x 1, lenght?.

According to this, the lower bolt is 6 x 40 mm.

Actually it is normal to have a little bit of oil in the alternator housing of the big Kawi fours. Fit a new gasket, replace the missing bolt and you should be good to go.
