'07 VN900 CLT I overheat whenever I hit 75 mph. Under that I can ride forever. The cap, pump, fan and coolant level are all good. I find no signs of leaks anywhere but after a few minutes with the temp light on I smell coolant.

Since everything seems to be good here comes the oil question. Are you using the factory recommended oil?

Hmm stuck thermostat? I can only imagine these have a thermostat in them.

Check the anti-freeze percentage. Get a $5 hydrometer from Auto-Zone. The higher the percentage of anti-freeze the greater the chance of the temp lite coming on.

Is it building cooling system pressure? Take it for a ride, then grab the most convenient hose and give it a squeeze. Is it rock hard?

I noticed my fan coming on more often as of late...
Wouldn't you know that by cleaning the radiator fins it cured my problem...

Glad you found the culprit as well... :)
