I believe the manual also says 1/4 turn after its finger tight.

unsure if it's the same on car plugs since I have yet to have to change mine, but there is a little washer looking thing in there on car plugs, just twist it til you hear it crack then give it 1/4 more turn and your torque is all good

If you over tighten it you can break the spark plug, but unless you are just pushing as hard as you can to tighten the plug up after its seated it won't happen.

i was told by my father years ago that thats what could happen, but i never would tighten it that much anyways.

another thing that can happen by overtightening is strippping the threads out of the head. i did it once to a chainsaw, i am never going to do it to my ninja.
