Hey all,
I'm looking to buy this 1998 zx9r from a guy i know but there are a couple of issues the bike has. First off, there is no 3rd gear and the starter is broken. Considering the bike has 30,000 miles on it, would it be easier to just replace the whole engine and tranny, or have the tranny rebuilt? He is asking 2100 for the bike, is that a reasonable price or should i walk?

Walk. I'd be willing to bet you can find one running for no more than 3K.

Unless you know how to repair a transmission, the expense of either fixing that engine, or replacing the engine with another with unknown problems of it's own will easily make that a $4000.00 bike.

Edit: Keep an eye on your local Craigslist. :)
