Make sure the oil is at least halfway in the window by the shifter and before paying listen for rod knock. Do a search on ZX11 bad bearings, wheelies and running low on oil had been a problem with the oil system starving out.

You're no newbie, you'll be fine. The bike? I always look for a booklet recording normal maintenance items, modifications and recalls.

You are getting the last of the ZZR's, the D model. They are very reliable. Issues with the D mainly center around the No3 con-rod failing. This was caused by a misaligned oil pathway during manufacture. It is not on every bike just a small percentage. As mentioned, maintaining the correct oil level is very important. On the sight window there is an Upper and Lower mark. Ignore those. The oil should be just a fraction below the top of the sight glass. Many ZZR riders, including myself, dont recommend running the engine for long when it is on the side stand. The brakes require quite a lot of maintenance as the design of the Tokico calipers tends to cause them to gum up and become less efficient. I strip and service mine once a year. If you ride in a hot environment and the law states that you need to have your lights on be aware that on tickover the load on the battery can be very high. This causes the fan to run at a slightly slower speed which in turn can cause issues with the engine getting to hot. I rectified this issue by fitting LED bulbs all round and replacing the battery with the one fitted to the ZX14R which has a higher amp rating. Make sure that the fairing bolts are fitted with plastic washers or the fairings can crack. The front mudguard is particularly prone to breaking around the main mounting bolt. I dont know what type of rider you are but if you like going around the bends then it is possible to improve the handling a great deal with some very cheap mods. Firstly rotate the concentric chain adjuster through 180 degrees. This changes the steering head angle and makes turn in much sharper without degrading the straight line stability. They also benefit from a set of progressive front fork springs. Spare parts are plentiful, both new and second hand. I hope you enjoy you ZZR/ZX11 mate. They are truly great machines.
Note: If it has the standard end cans on, then leave them on. The look and sound great and are sought after by ZZR riders around the world. They are as rare as hens teeth and command very high second hand prices (if you can find any not damaged) I have been riding ZZR 1100's since the 90's and will never stop riding them. I have many videos on YT on the bike. This link explains why I think they are so good.

Great videos in this thread! MichaelZZR, thanks for the ride! Did I see a cycle with sidecar traveling in the opposite direction? Lol... I dig those old sidecars. And C-130 Jumper, that banked track footage was awesome!!! Why can't every road have banks like that? Lol... be like skateboarding all over again. In many ways, banked riding on berms or whatever is much like skateboarding back in the day, I see many parallels because I grew up doing both sports, and we'd frequently ride our tricked-out BMX bikes & cruisers in parks, pools, banked ditches, etc. Ah, those were the days... but when ya ate sh!t, YA ATE SH!T BIG, and only kooks wore safety gear, lol. Now, I wouldn't even ATTEMPT the same dicey runs WITHOUT helmet, pads, wrist braces, gloves, etc. With age comes wisdom, as long as ya survive, lol... anyway, thanks to both of ya for the videos, very entertaining to watch! Cheers!!!

Older expressway ramps built in the 1950's and 1960's were banked but they stopped doing that to slow traffic.

Sometimes, when it been filled with brand new oil it can be very difficult to see. That normally means that it has been over filled. Not a good thing. If there is nothing in the site glass then you need to fill it up. The oil level on the ZZR is a little tricky. After warming up the engine and turning off it will look like the level is low. You must wait for 5 to 10 mins for the oil to drain down from the top of the engine. The oil level will reach a high point in the site glass and then will slowly go down a little as the oil drains down. That means there is a specific window of time for getting the true oil level.

Have a buddy lean the bike in the opposite direction so the oil runs away from the sight glass while you watch the sight glass. That way, if it is too full you will see the level appear in the sight glass when the bike is leaned over.

Perhaps more to the point, it's a very good idea to change the oil on any used bike with an unknown service history.
So drain it out, refill with a good quality motorcycle engine oil and install a new oil filter and you are good to go.

I like the whole ZZR line. Lots of ZZR1200's out there right now. I got onewith 4385 original miles on it for $ 2400 bucks. I am in the process, and have all the parts, of upgrading it a bit. I've got a nice pair of NISSIN calipers, new fork legs with rebound dampening, and I've installed a "Soupy's" lowering kit, I've lowered it one inch, front and rear. Galfer steel braided lienes (same company Ferrari uses), Genmar Risers, it will be ready next Spring. I've also done a major modification to the exhaust, removing around 40 lbs. of weight, 50 really, but 10 lbs. went back on. The pipe ends are Radiant Exhaust tips, and a baffle I designed with ceramic weave on the inside.

I think you going to love your bike ;)
