chain tensioner
I dont know the bike you have but the vulcan 750 I have is a model prone with cam chain tensioner trouble, and what you describe could be the same.
the spring in the tensioner gets or is already weak when manufactured, sometimes removing the tensioners and cleaning (an external protrusion on engine) is the cure.
follow service manual for removal/reinstallation, as they have to be "reset upon install"
